Summer Bookmobile Visits

Want an engaging literacy activity that slays the summer slide and combats social isolation for your students?

Schedule a Summer Bookmobile Visit! These ~90 minute visits provide your community with full access to library resources, story read alouds, and fun activities. Visits are free and open to the public. Summer 2026 visits are available on select Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. 

Library provides:

  • Bookmobile with up to 3 library staff-- 2 to operate the vehicle, assist with collection items, register for library cards and the Summer Library Program; 1 to read aloud and lead activity stations.
  • Bookmobile stocked with loanable library materials and custom selections based on your visit's theme.
  • Up to 2 activities/crafts/games related to the visit's theme.

School partners provide:

  • Promotion: school is responsible for communicating with students and families before school ends and during the summer.
  • An enthusiastic point person to read a story and interact with attendees, someone the students would be excited to see at their summer visit. PTA and student volunteers are encouraged to assist with crowd control and activity stations.
  • Restroom access for Library staff and emergency visitor use, parking lot, and permission to use school grounds. We'll need a place to set up the Bookmobile, host the activities, and room for visitors to park.

Encourage Reading

With the Bookmobile at every visit, participants have access to our full library collection. Browse the onboard selection and checkout materials, sign up for a library card, and chat with knowledgeable staff. Plus, patrons can request items in advance. Make a reservation in your library account and we'll bring your ready items to the next Bookmobile visit!

Slay the Summer Slide

Summer Bookmobile Visits are an opportunity for students make progress, or register, for summer reading challenges. Whether it's ECPL's Summer Library Program or a school designed challenge, students that actively read over the summer are more likely to retain their learning and return prepared for the upcoming school year. 

Create Social Events

Give families the opportunity to engage in free community programming at a familiar space. Parents converse, students play together on the playground, and everyone gets to enjoy the chance to reconnect and socialize during the sometimes isolating summer months away from school friends.

Book Your Visit!

Want to schedule a Summer Bookmobile Visit for your school?

  1. Fill out the Outreach Event Application and type Summer Bookmobile Visit as the event name. 
  2. Receive your meeting link to discuss bringing the Bookmobile to your school. 
  3. Chat with our Outreach Coordinator and book your visit date.
