What is the Blue Bingo Challenge?
The Blue Bingo Challenge is an all ages, family-friendly activity designed by participants in the Going Blue! Tween Book & Action Club. The club, co-led by ECPL Director Jessica Spitulski and Dr. Sam Mason of Gannon University, exposed participants to environmental concerns of watersheds, human impacts, and positive solutions. While participating in this multi-week partner program, tweens (and friends!) read Going Blue: A Teen Guide to Saving Earth’s Oceans, Lakes, Rivers, and Wetlands and culminated with a participant driven project.
Their final “Action Plan” resulted in the Blue Bingo Challenge--an activity to help our community learn about Lake Erie’s health and take small, meaningful steps to keep it clean. The bingo card, inspired by ECPL's Summer Library Program, is filled with simple, fun actions to complete at home and in the great outdoors.

From the Instructors:
"Co-leading this group was such a joy! We welcomed kids from different backgrounds, with different perspectives, and we all leaned into this topic with curiosity and purpose. Seeing this group work toward a shared goal gives me real hope for the future. I can’t wait to see what future programs like this will inspire!" - Jessica Spitulski, Erie County Public Library Director
"We were so fortunate to have such a great group of kids for our inaugural Book and Action Club collaboration. Every week we discussed readings, thoughts, and questions, and turned them all into actions! I can think of no better way to create engaged global citizens than what we did here in the span of a few weeks. I am so excited for the challenge they created, and all the next steps. Change happens through collaborations, education and engagement. The future is bright and the future is BLUE!" - Dr. Sam Mason, Project Neptwne Director
