Celebrate History in Erie County!

CANCELLED: A BOOKFORGE program: The 17th-Century Cambridge Panel Binding

Join Edward Patrick Kranz, the Honey Badger Binder of Erie’s own BOOKFORGE, as he presents a bookish session chocked full of history leading up to the iconic binding structure and aesthetic as well as bookbinding vocabulary, tools, and techniques. During this two-hour program, Edward will present the book binding process historically used to create this historic full-leather flexible (raised cords) binding with ten process step models for the audience to examine. Expect bookbinding tools, vocabulary, and in-process demonstrations of how this book structure is made.

Join us for an enriching experience during Hist-Erie Week, as the Erie Art Museum collaborates with the Blasco Library to offer a special event. On Friday, June 9th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, our knowledgeable docents will be available to guide visitors through our captivating artworks and exhibits, while also delving into the rich history of our Museum. 

Did you know that the Erie Art Museum originated as a small club at the Blasco Library? Discover the story behind our evolution and how passionate collaboration led us to become a platform for local creatives to express their ideas and life journeys. Through visual arts, these brave individuals share much more than just pictures, laying bare the most intimate parts of their lives. We invite you to be inspired, to discover the Museum firsthand, and to become a part of our history.

5:30pm-6:30pm "Home Again in OWB" Biking Tour
In partnership with Preservation Erie, join Erin Phillips of Old Erie on Foot for a biking tour of historic and interesting homes of the West Bayfront on Friday, June 9 from 5:30 to 6:30pm starting at Gridley Park. Erin is the managing editor and a contributing writer for the Erie Reader – Erie’s only local, independent alt-newspaper. She is also the creator of the Instagram and blog of Old Erie on Foot, which explores the historic residential architecture of Erie, PA. Born from her love of taking walks in her historic West Bayfront neighborhood with her family, since its creation in 2018, the account has evolved into an in-depth house history research project, in which she uncovers the hidden stories of a home’s past. She is also secretary of Preservation Erie, a local non-profit dedicated to preserving the character of Erie’s built history.
